Jewelry thief arrested

Caddo detectives are continuing their investigation into the theft of approximately $60,000 in jewelry stolen from a south Shreveport residence earlier this month.

John M. Cameron, 31, no address available, was booked into Caddo Correctional Center in connection with the case. He was arrested for illegal possession of stolen things, simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, and theft over $500.

Caddo Sheriff's Detective Terry Richardson said some of the jewelry has been recovered, but deputies are still following leads and are urging anyone who bought or received jewelry from Cameron to come forward. Those who contact the Sheriff's Office in a timely manner will not be prosecuted, he said.

The jewelry, as well as a small safe and cash, were taken from a residence in the Waterford Subdivision, some time during the day on June 2. Jewelry taken from the home was sold by Cameron to local individuals and businesses.

Cameron was arrested in a hotel room at a local casino. At the time of his arrest, he was in possession of Xanax and marijuana. He was also charged with possession of schedule I (3rd Offense) and possession of schedule IV.
