CPSO launches Twitter account

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office is expanding its use of social media by launching a Twitter account, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

The department’s account - @cpso - will provide real-time emergency information to its followers and will supplement the department’s already existing Facebook page.

“We think there will be real value in providing motorists and other citizens with breaking information on traffic accidents and road closures, weather emergencies, and major crimes,” Prator said. The department also will be tweeting information on wanted suspects and community information and programs.

“This is another way for us to connect with the public and get our message out there when seconds count. I can see it being particularly beneficial when we are searching for a suspect or when we need to divert traffic during an emergency,” Prator said.

The Sheriff’s Office joined Facebook in 2011 and relied heavily on its page to provide real-time information when fast-moving wildfires broke out in north Caddo Parish. The page now has over 3,600 followers.

Prator said the Sheriff’s Office also plans to announce a new CPSO mobile app in the coming weeks. The app will allow citizens to receive information, report crime, and connect with the department.
