Caddo Deputy to receive Lifesaving Award

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator will present the department’s Lifesaving Award to Cpl. James Norwood on Tuesday for his actions that saved the life of a 9-month-old baby.

The award presentation will take place at 8:30 a.m., October 20, at the Sheriff’s Re-Entry Facility, 1121 Forum Drive.

Norwood will be honored for the saving the life of the baby boy who lost consciousness after choking on a Lego toy. Norwood was off-duty and at home on August 11 when his neighbor brought the child to him and asked for help. Norwood performed lifesaving measures and CPR to clear the toy from the baby’s throat and restore his breathing.

Also on Tuesday, the following employees will be recognized for their years of service: Vicki Schulz, Carolyn Ross, Donna Furlow, Patricia Brooks, and Precious Love, five years; Ralph Phillips Jr., Earlene Simmons, and William Crawford, 10 years; Chris Abney, Gloria Evans, Deron Hester, Avery Leary, Shron Johnson, Barbara Washington, Madison Cox, Gary Blake, Ray Saunders, and Maureen Ryan, 15 years; Shannon Cornelius, Tommy King, and Steven Harris, 20 years; Alona Towler, 25 years; and Janet Veuleman and Mark Terry, 30 years.
