Vivian man arrested for homicide

A Vivian man is in custody for the shooting death of another man at the Monterrey Hills Apartments overnight, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

James Taylor III, 18, of the 200 block of East Davis Street, was taken into custody early this morning at a south Shreveport apartment complex by detectives and patrol deputies with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office. He is currently being booked into the Caddo Correctional Center for second-degree murder.

Taylor is accused of shooting 24-year-old James Carroll, also of Vivian.  The two were among a group of people who had been socializing together at the Monterrey Hills Apartments in Vivian on Wednesday. After leaving the complex together, they returned a while later, followed by a disagreement between the two. Taylor is accused of seeking out Carroll at the Monterrey Hills complex, producing a pistol, and firing twice when he located him between the buildings. The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m.

Taylor fled the scene in a tan Crown Victoria. Detectives located the vehicle which had been abandoned at I-220 and I-20 in Shreveport.

Taylor was arrested by CPSO Detective Keith Fox. North and south sector CPSO patrol deputies also are credited with assisting in the investigation.
