Man arrested for cutting friend's throat

Caddo sheriff's deputies arrested a Rodessa man on Monday for cutting his friend's throat with a box cutter.

Sheriff Steve Prator said 34-year-old Richard Lee Brooks Jr. was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center for aggravated second-degree battery and possession of a concealed weapon by a convicted felon. Brooks was also charged with two outstanding warrants.

Caddo Deputy Chris Wray was on patrol when he spotted the victim's Jeep run a traffic light and then pull into the North Caddo Medical Center in Vivian. James Douglas Lawrence, who had just turned 25 that day, got out of the passenger's side of the Jeep with a bloody shirt around his neck.

Wray learned that Lawrence, Brooks, and two women had just left a nearby business when the two men got into an argument about who was riding in the front seat. The men were in the front with Lawrence driving and the women were in the back when the argument occurred. During the argument, Lawrence's throat was cut. Brooks was ordered out of the Jeep, and one of the women drove Lawrence to the hospital.

Wray returned to the location where Brooks had been dropped off and placed him under arrest.
