A big rig driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated today after motorists reported him swerving in traffic and he initially refused to pull over for deputies, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Hugo Leonel Mejia, 41, of Alamo, Texas, was southbound on I-49, when other motorists reported his dangerous driving. Caddo deputies had to shut down the intersection of I-49 and North Market after he refused to stop. Mejia drove his 18-wheeler through the intersection at a high rate of speed, making a left turn onto North Market. He came to stop under the I-49 overpass and was taken into custody. Deputies located two opened bottles of alcohol next to the driver's seat.

About 10 deputies were involved in getting Mejia to stop his vehicle, thus avoiding injury to other motorists. Mejia was arrested for DWI, resisting arrest, and aggravated flight from an officer. (Photo not yet available.)
