Caddo sheriff announces
recipient of college scholarship
Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator will award an academic scholarship to Tedris Smith II during a ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 22, on the seventh floor of Government Plaza.
Smith is a graduating senior at Loyola College Prep where he earned a 4.03 grade point average. He will use the $500 scholarship to study civil engineering at Louisiana Tech University. Smith’s parents are Tedris and Yolanda Smith of Shreveport.
At Loyola, Smith was a member of Key Club, Chess Club, Student Government, National Honor Society, Latin Club, Feeding and Aiding the Hungry, and Mu Alpha Theta. He was a Student Ambassador, Louisiana Boys State delegate, Society of Military Engineers Camper, and was recommended by Loyola faculty to serve on the Student Advisory Committee. He also was on the basketball and track teams and is an Eagle Scout.
Sheriffs’ scholarships are made possible by the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program (LSHMP). Louisiana sheriffs provide scholarships to graduating high school students from each parish where the sheriff is an affiliate of the program.
Smith was chosen to receive Caddo’s scholarship by judges from LSUS, Bossier Parish Community College, and Centenary College.
Qualities such as academic achievement, leadership and character are considered in making selections of Sheriffs’ scholarship recipients. The only limitations are that applicants be permanent residents of Louisiana and that they enroll as full-time, undergraduate students in state.
