Shreveporter arrested for home improvement fraud
A Shreveport man was arrested for home improvement fraud after he took money from a customer and couldn’t finish the job, said Sheriff Steve Prator.
Michael Rodney Nelson II, 40, contracted a home remodeling job in February that totaled more than $33,000 in materials and labor. The victim purchased the materials herself but paid Nelson in full for $14,000 in labor costs. Three months later, the victim filed a complaint stating that Nelson had finished less than half the work and was returning to the job only occasionally, doing little work while there.
An investigation by Caddo Sheriff’s Detective Casey Jones determined Nelson failed to possess the required state license for home improvements over $7,500, therefore, he was unable to pull the required permits for the address where the job was contracted.
Nelson was booked in at the Caddo Correctional Center for one count of Home Improvement Fraud.
