A Florida man was arrested for identity theft after he stole a local woman’s personal information and made several purchases, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Kevin James Lynch, 49, of Delray Beach, FL, was extradited to Caddo Parish and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on November 16 after he was arrested in Georgia on a Caddo warrant earlier this month.

Caddo Sheriff’s Detective Jeremy Edward of the Caddo-Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force obtained the warrant after investigating the case. He said Lynch obtained multiple lines of credit totaling more than $19,000 using the Shreveport woman’s identity. He then used the credit to purchase electronics, clothing, and even a wedding band.

It’s not known how Lynch obtained the woman’s personal information but Sheriff Prator said citizens can help prevent ID theft by practicing some common precautions. Among them, he said, are to destroy private records and statements, safeguard your Social Security number, and monitor your credit report and credit card statements. It is also recommended to never leave ATM, credit card or gas station receipts behind and never let your credit card out of your sight when making a transaction.
