Deputies interrupt burglary in progress

Caddo Sheriff's K-9 deputies interrupted a burglary in progress tonight when they stopped to investigate a suspicious person complaint.

After a citizen told deputies about a man on the levee in the 9300 block of Hwy. 1 South, K-9 Deputy Jessica Benevage and her dog Spike went to check it out and found a ladder leaning against a fence and a man unlawfully entering a business there. Deputies said he had crawled through an opening in the side of the building. Sheriff's patrol deputies and additional K-9 units established a perimeter around the scene and contacted the business owner to respond. Deputies entered the building and found the man in the loft with self-inflicted knife wounds to his wrists.

The man, who has not been positively identified, was taken to University Health for treatment. He was expected to be charged with burglary and other offenses once he is booked into Caddo Correctional Center.
