CPSO, LSP to host anhydrous ammonia training

Local emergency responders will be participating in live hazardous materials training this week at the Caddo Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy.

The course, “Taming the Tiger in the Tank,” will review the physical properties of ammonia, its hazards, use of personal protective equipment, and typical storage. It will include entry into a live agent release and control of a leak. The training is hosted by the Caddo Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police.

Emergency responders who may typically respond to an accidental release of anhydrous ammonia will be attending the eight-hour class, which will be held on both Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Over 50 responders from Caddo, Desoto, Bossier, and Shreveport are scheduled to attend.

The training will be presented by LSP’s Joint Emergency Services Training Center from Baton Rouge.  JESTC trains law enforcement, government, and civilian agencies in emergency and first response services.

The training will take place at 15639 LA Hwy. 1 South.

* Note to local media partners: Please contact CPSO Media Relations if you plan to attend.
