A Shreveport man was arrested on battery charges today for cutting his girlfriend with a knife during an argument, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.
Deputies were called to a residence in the 12000 block of Johns Gin Road at 10 a.m. this morning after receiving a welfare concern call. Deputy Chris Stafford arrived at the home and was immediately confronted by 52-year-old Robert Charles Willis, who was armed with a knife. Willis dropped the knife and was taken into custody without incident.
Inside the home, Stafford found Crystal Upshaw, 32, suffering from multiple lacerations and a knife wound to the abdomen. She was transported by the Fire District to LSU Ochsner Health in Shreveport with non-life threatening injuries. A child was also in the residence but was not harmed.
An investigation was conducted by Sheriff's Det. Jeremy Prudhome. It was determined the battery occurred during an argument between the couple as Willis was moving out.
Willis was booked into Caddo Correctional Center for Aggravated Second Degree Battery and Domestic Abuse Battery with Child Endangerment.
