Caddo deputies that responded to a call about a vicious animal killing ended up arresting an armed felon on Friday, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

Derrick Johnson, 24, found himself in jail again after deputies discovered over 13 pounds of marijuana and guns in his possession. This all happened after his dogs mauled a neighbor’s dog on the same day.

Just before 8:30 p.m. on April 15, a Greenwood resident reported that two dogs mauled their dog and dragged it to a home in the 4800 block of Fawn Lane. Caddo deputies made contact with the homeowner, Derrick Johnson, as he exited his vehicle. During this time, deputies smelled a very strong odor of marijuana and saw a gun in Johnson’s car. Deputies investigated and discovered Johnson was a convicted felon. They obtained a search warrant for the residence where they found two rifles, two pistols and 13 large bags (approximately 13.642 lbs) of marijuana with a street value of approximately $61,879.00.

Derrick Johnson, 24, was arrested and booked into Caddo Correctional Center for possession with intent to distribute schedule I marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm with CDS and Caddo Parish Ordnance dog at large.
