Fifty-two boys from all over Caddo Parish arrived at Kinsey Scout Reservation on Sunday to attend the 2022 Caddo Sheriff’s Camp, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

“After cancelling this event for two years due to the pandemic, we are so excited to finally have the 31st Caddo Sheriff’s Camp,” Prator said. “It’s a great chance for our local children to get acquainted with the outdoors while getting to know our deputies.”

The four-day camp for boys ages 8-12 is free to those attending and is funded through private donations raised by the Sheriff. BSA provides food, tent lodging, activities, and staff. Caddo deputies also serve as mentors at the scout ranch.

The camp recognizes underserved Caddo Parish boys for good behavior and academic achievement and introduces them to the scouting program. The purpose of the camp is to develop leadership skills and encourage involvement in scouting by introducing campers to outdoor activities like swimming, archery, and marksmanship.

Prator will host Sheriff’s Camp Media Day at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, at the Scout Reservation. Activities will include:
•            Remarks from Sheriff Prator
•            Interview opportunities with the campers
•            Demos by CPSO K-9, Special Response Team, Marine Unit and Life Air Rescue
Media representatives can catch campers involved in various camping activities before and after lunch. Media is welcome to visit camp at any time to cover this story, but Sheriff Prator and camp organizers will be available only on Media Day. If you plan to visit at a time other than the designated day, please contact Bia Roldan at 658-2959 in advance.
