Caddo Sheriff offers pre-paid tax program

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator said parish property owners now have the option to pre-pay their taxes to avoid lump sum end-of-the-year payments.

Payments made either monthly or quarterly will be deposited into an escrow account and applied to property tax bills when they come due at the end of the year. Any additional taxes owed after the escrowed payments will be billed on the annual tax notice. Overpayments will be credited to next year’s taxes.

“No one enjoys paying taxes,” the Sheriff said. “Hopefully, this will take some of the ‘sting’ out of it by avoiding a large expenditure at the holiday season.”

Pre-payments will be accepted from January 1 through October 20. Taxpayers estimate their own future tax liability and divide their payments throughout the year accordingly.

Participants can access their escrow account via the internet and view their payment history and account balance.

To participate in the pre-paid tax program, submit a signed application along with the prior year’s tax notice or document listing the property involved to the Sheriff’s Tax Department. A copy of the application can be obtained by clicking on the tax button at caddosheriff.org or by visiting the Tax Department at the Caddo Parish Courthouse, 501 Texas Street, Room 101, in Shreveport.

For additional information, contact the Tax Department at 681-0638.
