Shreveport City Marshal's Office along with the Caddo Sheriff's to host an active shooter exercise

The Caddo Sheriff's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP), along with the Shreveport City Marshal's Office, will host an active shooter training exercise from July 9 to July 11 at The Caddo---Bossier Port Commission (60000 Doug Attaway Blvd. Shreveport, LA 71115).

The event will be designed to test and enhance the cooperation and readiness of first responders in Caddo, Bossier, Desoto, and Red River Parishes. Participants will practice operating under the Active Shooter Incident Management (ASIM) to provide a seamless, coordinated response when multiple agencies are involved in an emergency. The ASIM is designed to produce effective incident management by integrating a combination of facilities, equipment, personnel, procedures, and communications within a common organizational structure.

The class will run for three days, during which drills will be conducted in multiple phases, with briefings in between to address any areas that require additional training. The phases will include initial incident response, command establishment, deployment of the Rescue Task Force, simulation of victim transportation, and provision of services to the victims.

"Regular active shooter training establishes familiarity by working alongside other agencies in settings that could require a multi---agency response," Sheriff Henry L. Whitehorn said. "This would greatly benefit law enforcement if we were called to a real active shooter incident."

On Tuesday morning, the Sheriff's Deputies, Police, and Fire will meet at 8 a.m. at the main building at the Caddo---Bossier Port Commission for a safety briefing. Once the call is dispatched, those participating in the drill will respond to the location of the exercise.

Planning agencies for the exercise include the Caddo Sheriff's Office, Shreveport City Marshal's Office, Shreveport Police Department, Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office, Bossier City Police Department, Red River Parish Sheriff's Office, Desoto Parish Sheriff's Office, Fire Fighters/EMS, Dispatchers, and emergency managers.

A special thanks to the Port of Caddo---Bossier Port Commission and the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office OHSEP for their assistance in facilitating the training.

Media is welcome to videotape segments of the class on the morning of the last day.
