The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office has received two traffic enforcement grants from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for the period of October 2009 through September 2010. The goal of the grants is to reduce injury and fatal crashes, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

The grants, which total over $45,000, will provide over 1,300 hours of overtime for increased enforcement in the areas of occupant protection and seatbelt/child restraint enforcement; impaired driving (adult and underage); and speeding.

The grants also include funds for child passenger safety training and seminars, and money to purchase equipment to assist with conducting checkpoints.

In accordance with the grants, monthly sobriety checkpoints will be conducted, with the first being next Saturday, October 17, in south Caddo Parish.
