Caddo Sheriff Provides Essential Safety Tips Ahead of Halloween

Before heading out for trick-or-treating this season, Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn, Sr. advises parents to do their homework and know whose door they are knocking on.

“Not everyone has good intentions,” Whitehorn cautioned. “It's important to know your neighbors and be aware of any potential dangers in the area.”

Sheriff Whitehorn suggests that, during Halloween or any time of the year, Caddo Parish residents can check if convicted sex offenders live nearby by signing up for free email alerts at caddosheriff.org. Simply click on the sex offender registry button at the bottom of the page, and use the mapping and address features to identify where offenders reside. You can also register to receive future alerts if an offender moves into your neighborhood. This information is managed by OffenderWatch, which collaborates with law enforcement across the country to maintain sex offender registries.

“The community notification tool empowers you with the information you need to protect yourself and your family,” he added.

To ensure a safe Halloween, Sheriff Whitehorn also offers the following advice for parents:
- Never allow your kids to trick-or-treat alone.
- Only permit your kids to visit houses that you approve.
- Do not let your kids enter homes without your supervision.

Have a safe and enjoyable time while trick-or-treating!
