***UPDATE*** CPSO is currently investigating a Shooting in Vivian

At 8:25 PM on April 20, the Vivian Police Department was dispatched to the 300 block of Pardue Street in Vivian, Louisiana, in response to a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers found a 17-year-old female lying on the floor inside the residence with a gunshot wound to her upper body. Caddo Fire District 8 arrived shortly afterward and pronounced the young woman deceased. The Vivian Police Department then contacted the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office for assistance.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived and took over the investigation. Investigators are currently gathering information to determine the circumstances of the incident and whether any foul play was involved.

Updates will be provided as investigators complete their preliminary investigation.

***Female victim was 16 years old***

CPSO investigators transported two witnesses of the shooting—a 17-year-old male and a 16-year-old female—to the CPSO detective's office. Upon their arrival, they were read their Miranda rights before the interviews began, and a legal guardian was present with the 16-year-old female. During the interviews, they admitted to shooting the 16-year-old female while at the residence.

Following the interviews, Wyatt L. Sanders, 17, was transported to Caddo Correctional Center, where he was booked on one count of illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile and one count of principle to negligent homicide. The 16-year-old female was transported to the Caddo Juvenile Detention Center, where she was booked on one count of illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile and one count of negligent homicide.
