Yesterday evening, one of our K-9 handlers, Deputy Vaitkus, attempted to make a traffic stop on a four-door sedan at South Lakeshore and I-220. The vehicle refused to stop and fled westbound on I-20 before crashing near exit 5. The driver, Jefferey Moran, exited the vehicle and ran toward Greenwood Road. Deputy Vaitkus and Patrol Sergeant Sundquist pursued him on foot. Moran jumped over two fences and entered the parking lot of Averitt Trucking, where Deputy Vaitkus and Greenwood Police Officer Cpl. Kelly was able to apprehend him without incident.

Two passengers, Cadarius Southall and Taylon Brown, were taken into custody for possessing narcotics. Jefferey Moran had been evading law enforcement for an extended period due to multiple felony warrants issued by both the Caddo and Shreveport Police Departments. During the incident, a firearm was also recovered from the vehicle.

Moran is facing several charges, including illegal possession of stolen property, aggravated flight from an officer (a felony), unauthorized entry into a place of business (two counts), possession of a firearm while also in possession of controlled dangerous substances (CDS), public intimidation, manufacturing or distribution of Schedule I, and multiple outstanding warrants.

Southall was charged with possession of Schedule 2 . Both Moran and Southall were transported to the Caddo Correctional Center and booked on the aforementioned charges, while Brown received a summons to appear in court for possession of Schedule 2.

Congratulations to our Patrol Division on a job well done!
