Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office Releases Crime Statistics Under New Reporting System
Ensuring the public has a clear and accurate picture of crime in our community, the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office is updating its crime reporting practices through a modernized system that more accurately reflects law enforcement activity.
“The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office understands the importance of utilizing law enforcement tools that evolve to meet modern standards of accountability and transparency,” said Sheriff Henry Whitehorn, Sr. “By adopting smarter technology and data-driven practices, we can better serve our communities and build stronger public trust.”
CPSO is implementing a new reporting system that aligns with national law enforcement standards. This transition is supported by the Louisiana Incident-Based Reporting System, which allows for a more consistent and comparative analysis of crime data across reporting periods.
The adoption of this new method improves the accuracy and comprehensiveness of crime data, making it easier to track trends, allocate resources, and keep the public informed. The changes will also support the future integration of an upgraded records management software currently in development.
These improvements now capture incidents that may have gone unreported or inaccurately logged under previous methods. One such case occurred on April 19, 2024, near Attaway Hill Lane and Linda Lane, outside of Blanchard. Although there were two victims, the incident was recorded as a single homicide.
The recent shift in reported crime rates can be largely attributed to enhanced law enforcement presence and improved reporting practices. In particular, a special operation in South Shreveport resulted in an increase in both calls for service and recorded incidents. Additionally, more deputies have been assigned to high schools throughout the parish as part of an ongoing strategy to strengthen safety through visible and proactive community engagement.
CPSO continues to see measurable improvements, with response times remaining below the national average. Year-to-date data from January through March show a nearly 72 percent decrease in burglaries and a 70 percent reduction in car break-ins (theft from auto) compared to the same period last year.
To provide the public with insight into parish crime trends, CPSO is designing a crime mapping feature. The dashboard will allow residents to view reported crimes in their area or any location within Caddo Parish, and it will enable the department to make data-driven decisions to effectively deploy deputies to high-crime areas.
