K-9 Handler First-Aid Class
Yesterday, the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit hosted a K-9 First Aid class sponsored by the non-profit organization ANNA4PAWS. This class focused on the pre-hospital care of injured canines. Similar to humans, K-9s have a "golden hour" for treatment, which is critical for improving their chances of survival following a traumatic incident.
Five agencies participated in the day-long class, including the Caddo Sheriff's Office, Shreveport Police Department, Desoto Sheriff's Office, Springhill Police Department, and Gretna Police Department.
We want to extend our gratitude to Adrian Thompson, the founder of ANNA4PAWS; Dr. T from the Valor Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Bossier City, LA; and the University Animal Hospital in Shreveport for their invaluable assistance during the class.
Each K-9 handler who attended the class received a trauma bag filled with medical supplies to treat injured K-9s. This bag, valued at $350, was donated by ANNA4PAWS, and Valor Veterinary Emergency Hospital will refill the supplies as needed at no cost.
