The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office is heartbroken to announce the tragic loss of a Vivian Police Officer, who was shot and killed in the line of duty yesterday evening, stated Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.

On November 14, around 5:30 p.m., the Vivian Police Department responded to a residence in the 1700 block of North Pine Street in Vivian, Louisiana, to execute an arrest warrant for Nicolas Edward Alexander, 58, who was wanted for cyberstalking. When the officers arrived at the front door, Alexander fired multiple shots through the closed door, injuring one of the officers.

The wounded officer was transported to North Caddo Medical Center; however, despite the tireless efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries.

After the shooting, Alexander barricaded himself inside the residence. Following a standoff that lasted over two hours, he surrendered to the Caddo Sheriff’s Special Response Team without any incidents. He was evaluated by North Caddo EMS and then taken into custody by Caddo deputies, who transported him to the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Office.

Upon further investigation, detectives charged Alexander with second-degree murder and cyberstalking. The cyberstalking charge was related to a warrant that the Vivian Police Department was serving at that time. He was subsequently transported to the Caddo Correctional Center, where he was booked on the aforementioned charges.

This is a devastating day for all area law enforcement families and the entire Vivian community. The fallen officer served with honor, courage, and compassion. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. His bravery and service will never be forgotten.

The investigation is ongoing with the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office. The name of the fallen officer will be released only after his family members have been notified.
