Sheriff Whitehorn would like to inform Caddo Parish citizens that winter weather is expected this weekend. He urges residents to check on their elderly neighbors, as cold weather increases the risk of hypothermia, which can be life-threatening. Symptoms of hypothermia include confusion, fatigue, shivering, and numbness.

Warming centers for the homeless will be opening at the following locations:
- Shreveport Bossier Rescue Mission, located at 901 McNeil Street
- Hope Connections, located at 2350 Levy Street
- The Highland Center, located at 520 Olive Street (open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM)

**Indoor Safety Tips:**
- Ensure that fuel-burning appliances are well-ventilated and inspected to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Use electric heaters carefully to avoid shock or fire hazards.
- Keep flammable materials at least three feet away from heat sources.
- Only use heating equipment that is approved for indoor use.
- Insulate all exposed pipes to protect them from freezing temperatures.

**Pet Safety Recommendations:**
- Provide warm shelter for pets.
- Remove harmful substances, such as antifreeze, from areas where pets may access them.
- Bang on your car's hood before starting the engine to avoid harming any animals that may be hiding.

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office will monitor winter conditions and provide emergency updates on their Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as send push notifications through our Caddo Sheriff's App.
