The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (HSEP) Division, under Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr., is urging residents to take precautions and prepare for severe winter weather forecast to impact the area this weekend.

Forecasts predict freezing temperatures, icy road conditions, and hazardous travel. These conditions may lead to power outages, limited emergency response times, and dangerous driving situations throughout Caddo Parish.

Residents are encouraged to take the following preparedness steps:

1. Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of freezing rain or icy conditions.

2. Check heating systems to ensure they are functioning safely.

3. Protect exposed pipes from freezing.

4. Prepare an emergency supply kit with food, water, medications, flashlights, and batteries.

5. Keep mobile devices charged and have alternative power sources available.

6. Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and those with special needs.

7. Generator Safety

DO NOT place inside any structure
DO NOT place near open doors and/or windows
DO NOT refuel when the generator is hot

Improper generator use can be deadly!

Motorists should exercise extreme caution, slow down, and remain alert for changing road conditions. Emergency services will monitor the situation closely and respond as conditions permit.
