A suspect was taken into custody early this morning following a reported carjacking in Caddo Parish, according to Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.

At approximately 1:33 a.m., deputies with the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office responded to Glen Road after a resident reported that a couple had come to their doorstep, claiming they had been robbed. Deputies arrived and spoke with the victims, who reported that a man—whom they recognized as someone they had previously given rides to—had carjacked them. During the incident, the male victim reported being struck in the back of the head with a weapon.

Deputies established a wide perimeter and notified the Shreveport Police Department. CPSO Sgt. Sundquist contacted the Real-Time Crime Center, where they reviewed surveillance footage from cameras in the area of the carjacking. Shortly afterward, they located the stolen vehicle, prompting a K-9 unit from the Shreveport Police Department initiate a pursuit near Louisiana Highway 173 and Roy Road. The chase continued from Hilry Huckaby Road onto North Lakeshore Drive, where CPSO Deputy Geeter and Sgt. Sundquist joined the effort.

The suspect, later identified as Denzel Thomas, 36, eventually stopped on Rainer Street near Dellwood Drive, where he was confronted by a Shreveport Police K-9 officer and surrendered without incident. Thomas was transported to the Caddo Correctional Center and booked on multiple charges, including carjacking, aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The investigation is ongoing.
