On February 11, 2026, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Corporal Notarianni with the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of East Flournoy Lucas Road and Crooked Creek after observing a black Kia sedan commit a traffic violation.

Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Daryl Bates Jr., 19, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, Corporal Notarianni detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car. Deputies also observed an AR-style rifle positioned next to Bates' right leg.

After further investigation, deputies found two clear plastic bags containing approximately 88.9 grams of suspected marijuana inside the vehicle, along with the AR-style rifle. Deputies further determined that Bates was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver's license.

Daryl Bates Jr. was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute, and driving under suspension.

Bates was then transported to the Caddo Correctional Center, where he was booked on the aforementioned charges.
