National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week officially began yesterday morning with a proclamation ceremony and a spirited Oreo stacking contest, bringing together public safety agencies from across the parish to recognize the critical work of 911 communications professionals.

Tommy Mazzone, Executive Director of Caddo 911, expressed his appreciation for the dedication and professionalism of communications officers who serve the community around the clock. "These individuals are the calm voice in moments of crisis," Mazzone said. "Their commitment and teamwork are essential to public safety in Caddo Parish."

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux delivered the official proclamation, honoring the men and women who serve as the first point of contact during emergencies. Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn also addressed attendees, extending his gratitude not only to the Sheriff's Office dispatchers but to all telecommunicators at the Caddo 911 Communications Center for their tireless service and daily impact.

Adding a lighthearted touch to the event, Lt. Michael Jones of the Shreveport Police Department claimed victory in the annual Oreo stacking contest, earning the trophy for the tallest stack.

Throughout the week, communications officers will be recognized with meals, activities, and moments of appreciation during their shifts. Even as they celebrate, they remain committed to delivering the high level of service the community depends on every day.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office encourages residents to take a moment this week to thank a public safety telecommunicator for their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering service.
