A swift response from a School Resource Officer, along with the use of advanced weapon detection technology, helped ensure the safety of attendees at an event held at Booker T. Washington High School, stated Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.

At approximately 2:40 PM on May 11, 2026, a patron attempted to enter the event and passed through an open-gate security detection system designed to identify weapons. When the system alerted security, School Resource Officer Deputy Charles Daniels initiated a search of the individual. At that moment, the suspect fled on foot. After a brief chase, Deputy Daniels and a Shreveport Police officer apprehended the suspect without incident. He was identified as 18-year-old Darius Rashad Johnson. During the search, Deputy Daniels discovered a handgun on Johnson's person.

Johnson was charged with:
- Unlawful disruption of the operation of a school
- Carrying a Firearm/Non-student at school
- Resisting an Officer

He was transported to the Caddo Correctional Center, where he was booked on the aforementioned charges.

"This incident demonstrates the effectiveness of modern weapon detection systems, alongside the vigilance and professionalism of highly trained law enforcement personnel", stated Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, along with the Caddo Parish School Board, remains dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and community members attending school events.
