Haughton Firefighter Arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm

Caddo Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested a Haughton firefighter Sunday afternoon following an armed confrontation at a residence in the 8800 block of Old Mooringsport Road,m according to Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr. 

On May 31, 2026, at approximately 1:48 p.m., deputies responded to a disturbance involving a firearm at a residence located in the 8800 block of Old Mooringsport Road.

During the investigation, deputies learned that Jesse Nitz, 20, had arrived at the residence to pick up his girlfriend. While at the location, Nitz became involved in a verbal altercation with his girlfriend's father. Deputies determined that during the argument, Nitz allegedly removed a handgun from a holster on his waist and pointed it at the victim.

According to deputies, the victim attempted to disarm Nitz, resulting in a struggle over the firearm. The victim's adult son assisted his father in subduing Nitz and securing the weapon. The two men detained Nitz until deputies arrived on the scene.

Nitz, a firefighter in Haughton, was taken into custody without incident for one count of aggravated assault with a firearm. He was then transported to the Caddo Correctional Center, where he was booked on the aforementioned charge. 

This investigation remains ongoing.
