Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting Incident
The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident in which a deputy came under gunfire during a traffic stop early Wewdnesday morning, according to Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.
At approximately 12:16 a.m. on July 1, a sheriff's patrol deputy initiated a traffic stop on a dark-colored Nissan Altima in the 3000 block of Colquitt Road in Shreveport. The driver pulled into the Colony Apartments complex, quickly exited the vehicle, and fled on foot toward one of the apartments. The suspect then stopped, drew a long rifle, and fired multiple rounds at the deputy. One round struck the deputy's patrol vehicle, but fortunately, the deputy was not injured.
Deputies, along with officers from the Shreveport Police Department, quickly established a perimeter and conducted an extensive search of the area. The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office Special Response Team (SRT) later searched an apartment believed to be connected to the suspect, but the suspect was not located.
Detectives are actively investigating the incident to identify the suspect. The suspect is currently described as a Black male wearing dark clothing.
Anyone with information about this incident or the suspect's identity is encouraged to contact the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office at 318-675-2170 or submit tips anonymously through Caddo/Shreveport Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
