The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a resident and the theft of the victim's vehicle following a welfare check that led to an arrest early Wednesday morning, according to Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.

On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, deputies from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a residence on Nottingham Drive to conduct a welfare check. Upon arrival, they discovered the resident deceased. The circumstances surrounding the death are still under investigation.

While processing the scene, investigators found that the residence appeared to have been burglarized, and the victim's Jeep was missing. The vehicle has been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database as stolen, and a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert was issued to surrounding law enforcement agencies.

At approximately 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, patrol deputies found the stolen Jeep at Elsie's Truck Stop on Louisiana Highway 1. They initiated a traffic stop and took the driver, Jeremy Young, 40, into custody without incident.

Young was then transported to the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division for questioning. After further investigation, he was arrested and charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle.

The investigation into both the victim's death and the burglary remains active. Detectives anticipate that additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office at (318) 675-2170 or submit anonymous tips through Caddo/Shreveport Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
