A student from Calvary Baptist Academy was arrested on Monday after a knife was found on school property, according to Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.

At approximately 2:05 p.m. on August 10, Caddo Parish Sheriff's Corporal Derek Owen, the School Resource Officer at Calvary Baptist Academy, was approached by a student who reported seeing another student with a knife during class.

The student informed Corporal Owen that a 14-year-old male had briefly opened the knife during class but did not threaten anyone with it before putting it away. 

Cpl. Owen and a school administrator removed the student from the classroom. When questioned about the knife, the juvenile retrieved it from his backpack and voluntarily surrendered it to the administrator without incident.

The student was arrested for carrying a dangerous weapon on school property and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center, where he was booked on the aforementioned charge. The knife was seized and placed into evidence.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office reminds students that weapons are prohibited on school property and encourages them to report any weapons or suspicious activity to a teacher, school administrator, or School Resource Officer immediately.
