On September 1, 2026, a 16-year-old student was arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot up C.E. Byrd High School, according to Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.

Around 12:45 p.m. on that day, a school resource officer from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, Cpl. Peter Tidovsky, was called to the school administration office to investigate a reported threat. During the investigation, a teacher informed the deputy that the student had stood up during class, used profanity, and stated that she intended to shoot up the school. Another student who witnessed the incident confirmed the teacher's account.

The deputy located the student and took her into custody without any incidents. She was then transported to the Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center and booked on a charge of Terrorizing/Menacing. No injuries were reported.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, her identity is not being disclosed.
