Halloween Safety Tips from CPSO
Halloween is a time for costumes, candy, and spooky fun! The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office reminds everyone to prioritize safety while enjoying the holiday.
Trick-or-Treaters and Parents:
- Always travel in groups and ensure that young children are accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Wear bright colors or reflective materials, and carry glow sticks or flashlights to remain visible.
- Stay on sidewalks when possible, use crosswalks, and look both ways before crossing the street.
- Never enter a stranger's home or vehicle.
- Parents should inspect all candy and treats before allowing children to eat them.
Drivers:
- Slow down and stay alert in neighborhoods where children may be trick-or-treating.
- Watch carefully for children crossing streets or walking near roadways.
- Avoid distractions, especially using cell phones, while driving.
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Homeowners:
- Keep porches, walkways, and driveways well-lit and free of obstacles.
- Secure pets to prevent accidental injuries or frighten young visitors.
- Report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
A Message from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office:
"Whether you're out collecting candy, handing out treats, or traveling through our neighborhoods, remember that safety is everyone's responsibility. A few simple precautions can help ensure Halloween is filled with treats, not tragedies."
Stay alert. Stay visible. Stay safe.
