Sheriff Prator will award the department's Lifesaving Award to Deputy Gabriel Evans, who performed CPR on a man who lost consciousness while in the checkout line of a local store. Evans was off duty shopping in the store when the incident occurred.

Deputy Evans determined the man was not breathing and had no pulse, and immediately began CPR with the assistance of a bystander. After performing chest compressions for several minutes the man regained consciousness and began coughing and gasping for air. Deputy Evans and the bystander then stayed with the man and engaged him in conversation to keep him alert until paramedics arrived to transport him to the hospital.
