Local volunteer donates award money to Sheriff's Safety Town

Shreveporter Sal Miletello is using money received as a state Angel Award winner to help Sheriff's Safety Town teach children about fire, bicycle, and vehicle safety.

Miletello recently donated $2,000 to Safety Town, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator. The donation was part of a $20,000 award Miletello received from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Louisiana Foundation to benefit the charities of his choice. Other local charities selected by Miletello will receive the remaining grant funds.

Miletello is one of eight Louisiana residents to be selected as a 2010 Angel Award winner for their outstanding volunteer service on behalf of Louisiana’s children. He is the founder and chairman of the board of Fully Devoted Developer of Children (FDDOC) Winners’ Circle, Inc., which provides after-school math and reading tutoring as well as enrichment opportunities to academically at-risk and socioeconomically disadvantaged youth.

"Sheriff's Safety Town is very grateful to be selected by Mr. Miletello as a recipient of his Angel Award grant," Prator said. "We share a common focus - the safety and well-being of our children - and look forward to using this money to enhance the lives of children in our community."
