Caddo Sheriff's Office, Shreveport Police conduct Operation “Purple Ribbon”

Twelve people were arrested Tuesday night by Caddo Sheriff's deputies and Shreveport police during an operation to address domestic violence, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator and Shreveport Police Chief Willie Shaw.

Deputies and officers working in teams hit the streets to locate and arrest wanted suspects who have current active arrest warrants for violation of domestic-related laws. Thirty-four addresses in Shreveport and Caddo Parish were checked.

Operation “Purple Ribbon," named in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, was conceived through a collaborative effort between Sheriff Prator and Chief Shaw as part of their ongoing commitment to serve the citizens of Shreveport and Caddo Parish. The operation was funded by an Office of Violence against Women grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Sheriff Prator commented on the initiative saying, “The Caddo Sheriff's Office and Shreveport Police Department are committed to ending family violence and violence against women in our community. We're pleased with the results of last night's operation, but clearly, there is still much to be done. This won't be the last of these operations, so I strongly encourage anyone who has an outstanding warrant for domestic violence to contact law enforcement and take care of your business before we contact you."

Chief Shaw echoed those thoughts adding, “I want to be clear that this is not just about one month out of the year. We take our responsibility to the victims of domestic violence very seriously and we work diligently to not only prevent domestic abuse, but to arrest those offenders who make a choice to engage in inappropriate, criminal behavior.”
