Man arrested for holding three at gunpoint

Caddo Sheriff’s detectives arrested a Shreveport man for breaking into a residence in north Caddo Parish and holding three people at gunpoint, said Sheriff Steve Prator.

James Matthew Spearman, 28, of the 400 block of Sand Valley, was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on charges of aggravated burglary and false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon.

Spearman is accused of breaking into a residence in the 9200 block of Double D Drive around 4 a.m. on April 20. Once inside he held three people at gunpoint but ultimately left without harming them. Caddo Sheriff’s Detective Terry Richardson said Spearman went to the house after finding out that unauthorized charges had been made on his credit card and that items purchased with his card had been shipped to the Double D address. He did not know the people at the residence.

The three people who were held at gunpoint are not considered suspects in the unauthorized use of Spearman’s credit cards. That case is still under investigation.Sheriff’s Detective Doug Smith of the Caddo-Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force said the three people at the Double D residence were themselves victims of a shipping scam that originated overseas.
