The Caddo Parish Sheriff?s Office is taking applications for the position of auxiliary deputy, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, be a high school graduate or equivalent of, and be able to pass a background check.

The new auxiliary class will begin March 17. Classes will be held on Monday and Thursday evenings at Summer Grove Baptist Church. Participants will be trained by Caddo Parish deputies in areas including patrol procedures, defensive driving, radio communications, CPR and first aid, hazardous materials, handling of evidence, passenger safety awareness, traffic control, and other law enforcement-related material.

Auxiliary deputies assist full-time Caddo deputies with duties including traffic control at accident scenes, traffic escorts, sobriety checkpoints, neighborhood canvasses during special operations, and many other activities.
