A volunteer treasurer for Broadmoor Christian Church on Youree Drive was arrested today for stealing over $100,000 from the church, said Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator.

Evelyn Brown, 63, of 109 Southfield, was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center following an investigation by sheriff’s Detective Bobby Herring of the Caddo-Shreveport Financial Crimes Task Force.

The investigation determined that Brown was a volunteer treasurer at the church from January to November of this year. During that time, she fraudulently gained access to church bank accounts and transferred approximately $104,613 into an unused church operating account. She then forged the signature of the authorized signer on the operating account in order to write checks to herself.

Sheriff Prator said the church contacted the Sheriff’s Office after noticing discrepancies in their accounts.

Brown was arrested for felony theft and illegal transmission of monetary funds.
