Several steps are involved in the selection process for employment with the sheriff's office. You can expect the process to take anywhere from twenty-one (21) to sixty (60) days. Successful completion of all steps involved does not guarantee that you will be employed. If you are not among the applicants selected, you will receive written notification within thirty (30) days after selections are made. CPSO reserves the right to terminate the process at any time without notification to the applicant as to the reason why.

  • Complete the online Pre-Employment Questionnaire or submit the printed Pre-Employment Questionnaire to the Personnel Division.
  • Pass the vocabulary / reading comprehension test. (Those with college degrees from an accredited college / univeristy may be exempt from testing - Veterans may also be exempt from testing)
  • Upon passing the reading comprehension test, the applicant must submit an employment application. Those applicants for POST Certified deputies must schedule a physical fitness test, tour the Caddo Correctional Center, and weapons qualification. Applicants for Corrections Deputy must also tour Caddo Correctional Center and pass a modified physical fitness test. (Physical fitness tests are graded by sex and age group in accordance with the Cooper Standards)

Steps After Application:

  • Board interview with Personnel Division
  • Criminal history and background investigation
  • Polygraph examination
  • Psychological tests
  • Medical examination and drug screening examinations.

Applicants for Corrections Deputies are required to pass a modified physical fitness test. You will be tested by sex and age group; in flexibility, strength, and endurance in order to continue through the selection process.
