Two scout units to be opened as a result of Sheriff's Camp
Two new Boy Scout units formed as a result of the boys participating in Caddo Parish Sheriff Don Hathaway's Summer Youth Camp will conduct opening ceremonies at the meeting of the Norwela Council, Boy Scouts of America, Urban Committee.
The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Norwela Council offices on Beverly Place across the street from the Querbes Park tennis courts. The Urban Committee is chaired by Federal Judge Carl Stewart and will be meeting for the first time in the 1998-99 school year.
The meeting will kick off Fall Round-Up activities, which afford opportunities for new growth in scouting. Also during the meeting, Dr. Brondwyn Holliway will be recognized for performing more than 30 free physical examinations for urban scout units so that the youth could attend camps. Urban churches will be recognized for serving as chartered partners for urban youth.
