Sheriff’s Office sending out 100,000 tax notices
The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office Tax Division today began printing more than 100,000 tax notices for Caddo Parish property owners. The notices, which total more than $119 million, will be mailed beginning Wednesday (Nov. 25).
Current-year taxes are payable by Dec. 31. After that, delinquent fees of one percent per month or any part of a month are applied to the tax. The Sheriff’s Office Tax Division is open through the end of the year from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except on scheduled holidays. Those holidays are Thanksgiving holidays Thursday and Friday this week, Christmas Eve day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve day. The Sheriff’s Tax Office hours and schedule are also printed on the tax notices.
This year’s notices incorporate a new design that shows the current year taxes due, as well as previous years’ delinquent balances where applicable. The change is intended to give definitive information to property owners about all taxes due so that accounts can be made current. The Sheriff’s Tax Division goal is to maximize delivery of tax notices to reduce the number of properties that are sold at the Sheriff’s Tax Sale in May or seized for delinquent taxes.
Caddo Parish property owners not receiving a tax notice by Dec. 4 should contact the Sheriff’s Tax Office at 318-681-0638, unless their accounts are handled by a mortgage-holding financial institution.
