Two injured in three-vehicle accident

A Caddo Parish Sheriff’s deputy and a North Shreveport woman both escaped serious injury Friday night in a three vehicle accident on La. 1 about 1.5 miles south of La. 173. The driver of the third vehicle was uninjured and the deputy’s K-9 partner received a minor cut.

Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Sheila Hostnick said Sheriff’s Deputy Jamie McLamb, 28, was southbound on La. 1 at about 9:55 p.m. when he hit the rear of a 1995 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck driven by Angela Flores, 19, of 6012 La. 1. Hostnick said information gathered at the scene and statements from witnesses indicate the pickup truck was having mechanical problems and was traveling at about 10 mph in the 65 mph zone of the four-lane divided highway. Hostnick said Flores told her she was not using the truck’s emergency flashers and that the left wheels of the truck were off the pavement at the time of impact.

Hostnick said the left front of McLamb’s 1997 Ford Crown Victoria patrol unit hit the right rear of the pickup truck. The impact and the slope of the grass median caused the pickup truck to roll and come to rest on its top in the median. The patrol car rolled onto its top, slid in the southbound lane and hit the left rear side panel of a 1993 Ford Crown Victoria Checker Cab driven by Bobby Morris, 43, of 9209 N. Sunset. The taxi received only minor damage. The southbound lane of La. 1 was reopened to normal traffic at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

McLamb and Flores were treated at the scene by personnel from Caddo Fire District No. 1. The Life Air Rescue helicopter airlifted McLamb to LSU Medical Center, where he was treated for moderate injuries and held for observation. Balentine Ambulance Service took Flores to LSUMC, where she was treated for minor injuries and also held for observation.

McLamb’s K-9 partner, Congo, was checked by a veterinarian at the Animal Emergency Clinic of Shreveport-Bossier, treated for a minor cut on his lip and released to Sheriff’s K-9 handler Pat Burroughs.

Hostnick said no citations were issued in the accident.
