Sheriff's Office investigates discovery of skeletal remains

Caddo Parish sheriff's deputies are investigating the discovery of skeletal remains found earlier today in Mooringsport.

Investigators found the remains after a cadaver dog belonging to the Shreveport Fire Department led them to a wooded area near Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Deputies received a call Tuesday evening about possible human bones found in the yard of a residence on Hwy. 169. Patrol deputies and Investigator Jay Morgan responded but were unable to find the origin of the bones due to darkness.

Around 8 a.m. today, deputies, assisted by Mooringsport Police and Shreveport Firefighter Kerry Foster, went back to the residence on Hwy. 169. Foster and his dog, Yarbo, covered over one-half mile in the rural area to lead deputies to the remains.

At this time, deputies have no confirmation on the race or sex of the person discovered, and they aren't ruling out foul play. The Caddo Coroner's Office will assist with the investigation to determine how and when the person died.

Anyone with information that could assist in the case is urged to call Morgan at 929-9987.
