Sheriff’s Senior Citizen Academy to begin Sept. 22

Caddo Parish Sheriff Don Hathaway has organized a six-session academy that will provide senior citizens with an overview of Sheriff’s Office operations and practical information for their personal safety and well-being.

The Sheriff’s Senior Citizen Academy will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 22, and will continue weekly for six weeks. Each academy session will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Caddo Correctional Center on Forum Drive off North Hearne Avenue.

There is no charge for the academy, which can accommodate 25 participants, all of whom must pre-register by calling Deputy Doris Swift at 226-6794.

The academy is designed to provide senior citizens with insight into law enforcement duties, policies and procedures. The academy will also allow participants to meet and share ideas and information with Sheriff’s deputies in a positive setting.

Sheriff’s Office subject matter experts will cover topics including overviews of the Sheriff’s Office structure, the 9-1-1 Center, the Sheriff’s Tax Office and the Caddo Correctional Center. Services provided under the Elderly Crime Victims Assistance program, general safety, drug and gang awareness, firearms safety, con games and white collar crime will also be discussed.
