Sheriff’s deputy installed as president of state D.A.R.E. unit

Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Wilkinson is the new president of the Louisiana D.A.R.E. Officers’ Association.

The 19-year Sheriff’s Office veteran, who will serve a one-year term as the organization’s president, has been a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) instructor for eight years.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office was a D.A.R.E. pioneer in Northwest Louisiana in 1991. Today there are more than 300 law enforcement officers teaching D.A.R.E. programs in Louisiana. Wilkinson said there are D.A.R.E. programs in every Louisiana parish.

The state D.A.R.E. president will continue to teach his classes in Caddo Parish, and will travel to other states representing Louisiana. He is also a member of the Louisiana D.A.R.E. Advisory Board.
