Sheriff’s narcotics agents sweep parish for illegal alcohol sales

Caddo Parish Sheriff’s narcotics agents swept the parish outside Shreveport Friday night in a sting operation designed to identify businesses that would illegally sell alcohol to someone under the age of 21.

The agents targeted Mooringsport, Oil City, Vivian, Rodessa, Ida and Keithville. Beginning at about 8 p.m., narcotics agents and a teen-ager systematically went to 21 businesses in Caddo Parish that sell alcoholic beverages. Of the 21, eight sold alcohol to the teen-ager.

Misdemeanor summonses were issued to operators at E-Z Mart in Oil City, Johnny El’s in Vivian, 7-7 in Vivian, E-Z Mart No. 7 in Vivian, Big O’s in Rodessa, Crossroads in Ida, S&A Food Mart in Keithville, and Crawdaddy’s in Keithville.

The narcotics agents said the operators in the other 13 stores were following state law, checking ID’s and refusing to sell to the teen-ager.
