Human skeletal remains found Nov. 10 identified

The human skeletal remains found by two hunters in Western Caddo Parish Nov. 10 have been positively identified as those of a 23-year-old Shreveport man who had been missing for about two months.

Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Investigator James Long said today that the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office used dental records to positively identify the remains as those of Roderick Simmons, 23, of Drexel Street in Shreveport. Long said Simmons had been listed as a missing person by the Shreveport Police Department since Sept. 24.

The two Shreveport men found some remains in a wooded area north of the 7500 block of Jefferson-Paige Road in the late afternoon of Nov. 10. Sheriff’s investigators and identification technicians conducted a systematic search of the area the next day. Enough remains were found to provide the match with the dental records.

Long urged anyone with information about Simmons’ disappearance and/or death to contact him or Investigator Kay Ward at 675-2170.
